I just did a search to see if any new DG dates had been announced, and I found this news posted today!!

The studio wasn't that good anyway. Foundling didn't have any bus noises.

    lol

it is london and resi will always carry the day - particularly when up against an alternate use of trying to make a go of it in this crappy business.............just DG being smart and hopefully making a good bit of dough on his investment - he can find other places to record i am sure

who wouldn't want to live here??!!

Aww I can remember the amazing night that I was lucky enough to attend a Virgin Radio guestlist only gig there. Words can't describe how wonderful it was.

Before The Studio gets turned in flats, David should play one last gig there for his biggest fans, which of course are us lot on here.

Anyone fancy starting a petition, lol.

Now that would be a prestigious address. Perhaps one last concert with names in the hat. Too many of us to fit in in one go.

Now THAT would be my dream concert!!

I know DG has made a few cracks about buying that studio just when the music industry collapsed.  Hopefully he'll be able to recoup his investment by doing this, though it still makes me a little sad.  There are a few songs where I almost feel like I hear the room in the recording.  I have to wonder now, is he just thinking ahead and getting the ball rolling on this process, or does this mean he has finished recording the next album and is ready to move?

Oh my. To me this is quite a shock. David used to refer to the Church as his refugium. To me this has always been where the magic happened...

The music industry really lies in shambles. Let's hope this will bring what David hopes for.

And that last concert mentioned above is a brilliant idea.

    great idea on the concert!!

ropreston I am sure all of this is a ways away because it all needs to get approved - he is just now petitioning to make the transition I think................could help this next cd as he will know it to be the last from this hallowed hall..........

rena how many albums has he done here? I thought it a more recent thing............and I know you will cite nemesis! :)

David bought The Church Studios in 2003. So every album he recorded after that was done there, starting with Life in Slow Motion. There is this brilliant making of LISM documentary that came with the album, if you preordered it on iTunes. I will never forget the scene when Clune opened the door of the studio and there he was, David Gray all smiles.  The first time I, who has been a fan since 1999, ever saw his face btw. But that is another story.

The songs that mean most to me were all recorded and even more important written there. A magic place.

I have to add though that there have always been single songs or bits of songs which were recorded elsewhere, like NYC.

To me it is totally irrelevant where DG writes or records because it is DG himself (as well as those musicians and technicians with whom he collaborates, of course) who make the music what it is for me. He was brilliant before the Church Studios and he will be brilliant without Church Studios. I am just saddened that a unique and historical place would be turned into … flats. Ugh. I am not ignorant of the financial aspect but my strongly sentimental side says, WHY??!!?? Ah, well, just a reflection of the state of the music industry, I suppose.

Is this what David's most recent release was about?

Rena, I believe you are talking about this video: http://music.com/video/david-gray/making-of-life-in-slow-motion/A10302B0000206326M  I love that opening too!  Lots of great stuff on the studio too.

Has anyone else seen the DG episode of 360 Sessions?  I couldn't find it free anywhere, but I bought it on Amazon.  It's beautiful, and David talks quite a lot about the studio and gives a little tour of it.  He speaks very lovingly about it.

    Yes, that's the one, Ropreston.

Yes, I bought the 360° Sessions from iTunes as well. Brilliant. I love the scene when he walks by his instruments and just ever so gently touches the harp. To me this about pins down how much this man is living and breathing music.
