    A Message From David

    Greetings Weboloids,

Updates on up and coming events and imminent digital wonderments!!

In the wake of some serious road work supporting Draw the Line in 2009/10 I've slowed down the pace a little in 2011. My 9th studio album Foundling came out in the summer of 2010 and I realised when trying to incorporate the new material into my set, that it warranted a completely different approach in order to do the new songs justice. Thus a plan was hatched for a new kind of show and one that would not only enhance the Foundling material but also shine a new light on songs reaching right back to my earliest recordings.

Basically the idea was to use real instruments mic'ed up, and to have the musicians as close to each other as the staging would allow - the aim being to be as musically fleet of foot as possible, with a crystal clear sound. More like a glorified recording session than a 'Rock' show. Please step forward - 'The Lost and Found Tour'.

The Tour began back in a snowy Boston on February 19, and from the very first moment it started, it was clear that something special was taking place. What soon became clear was that not just the new songs, but all the songs sounded so much sweeter for the clarity and intimacy that this new musical setting provided, and out in front of an audience, the whole thing just lit up. Each gig became like a surge of joy, and in all my years playing music, I've never felt so at home and in my element up on the stage.

The British leg of the tour began with a great show in the Liverpool Philharmonic on May 27, and as we hit our stride, it seemed that rather than wearing off, the magic was in fact getting stronger. The tour ended at the Convention Centre Dublin on June 8, which was filmed and recorded. The result is something that I'm very proud of.

These shows have been so precious to me, it only seemed like a shame that more people wouldn't get to see them, but now, thanks to the magic of technology, exactly that is possible, and at just the click of a digital switch. We have a 12 track digital live album recorded in Dublin available via Groupon for $6. Also you can watch the video of the whole concert via O2BlueRoom.ie. The second leg of the US tour starts on Sunday, June 25, these will probably be my last shows in a while so hope to see you out there.

    David Gray.

    Beautifully said by David.

"Right now, it seems as though David Gray is finally exactly where he wants to be." – John Aizlewood, London Evening Standard

I could not agree more. Just listening to Lately from Dublin as I write. It's no surprise David is proud of what he ,together with his marvellous fellow musicians, has achieved on this tour.

"Each gig became like a surge of joy, and in all my years playing music, I've never felt so at home and in my element up on the stage. "

Which was clear to hear, to see, to experience at each and every gig. He radiated the joy of playing and  took the audience along on a journey to another place of magic and music. Brilliant. The best musical experience I was ever privileged to attend.

Wonderful message Rena thanks for posting. I second every word you said.

It was an absolute pleasure to attend three gigs of this tour and never ever have i witnessed a more respectful crowd at each and every one, they were hypnotised by the sheer excellence.

We have been spolit this tour with firstly the live gigs, the diary entries which i look forward to so much, the live download from Dublin and last but by no means least the livestream which was the next best thing to being there in person, hoping so much for a dvd release of this.

David looks after his fans and i've never been more proud of being one.

    Smile

    DG,

I fully appreciate you taking the time again to court the US.  I hope that all in Akron are true believers of the sound and spirit, and will indulge in the silence of the performance.  It is sure to be a great treasure, when finding ourselves enthralled while at the Lost and Found Tour.

The Akron Civic Theater from pictures, looks like a beautiful set, a gorgeous ceiling, hopefully great acoustics and all.  I want to wait to the last minute in buying tickets, hoping that the artist management releases awesome seats previously held for such graces as the Mayor or sorts.

However, if all goes well, may I be the Mayor?  Hah!  Wouldn't it be nice, as the Beach Boys sang!  I guess I'll make a little sign if it does!  Thanks to the band for everything you do!  Creating a musical highway of emotions for all who are tuning in, to get on at a certain point of their favorite song, helping them relate to the feeling with the fulfilling backup of supporting instruments!

And so it goes, the countdown begins!  I'm so pumped up!

If you were to do a cover song, would it be, "Take My Breath Away" from the movie "Top Gun"?  Any chances of relaying what your Top 25 List of Would Be Cover Songs are, if you would?

    Please forgive me,

Long Black Veil, Mansion on the Hill, Think It's Going to Rain Today, and others... just found that you released in 2007!

I thank you for that!  Going to listen on the road there!

    David,

I saw you in Durham this past Sunday evening. This was my second time seeing you in this venue and both times have far exceeded my expectations. Last year was mind-blowing in it's own right, but this year completely blew me away. The arrangements of the songs to accommodate this format you are playing in for this tour were, quite simply, beautiful. The setlist was perfect, in my opinion, in that I heard some songs I was not expecting (My Oh My, White Ladder), which added to the perfection.  Once again at this show, Nemesis was amazing. For me to even attempt to put into words how moving it was again, with the added lyrics towards the end would just take away from the power of it. Thank you for that.

I did get to meet you after the show, one of the last (just after the woman who gave you the little present wrapped in blue). You seemed a bit tired and dazed (probably from the camera flashes as you made your way through the line, along with the heat) and I wanted to relay this to you there. I didn't have the words just then and stumbled over what I was able to get out. At any rate, thanks for signing inside the Foundling cd cover and the pictures.

Thank you for being who you are, passionate about what you are doing and persisting to create the beauty that is your music in this world.

Well said Matt, nice post, welcome to the forum.

Totally agree on Nemesis, just mind blowing, another fan has posted an excellent recording from that gig in the pics from Durham thread.

    Hello David,

Thank you, thank you for yesterday's performance in Omaha. It was sincere, emotional and beautifully crafted.  I am hoping to buy some of your older albums as well, but haven't been able to find access to these yet.

Thanks again.. the performance was really touching.
