    LONDON FESTIVAL OF ARCHITECTURE

A month long festival where you can explore London’s traditional and modern architecture. With over a hundred events from lectures, to themed bike rides, to urban treasure hunts and a huge jelly party in the quad of UCL, there’s something for everyone. For details, please visit

    http://www.lfa2008.org/events.php

Sounds most interesting to me. I wish I could go.

Interesting upcoming exhibitions at the Tate Modern as well

THANKS SO MUCH for posting Rena Smile

I wish i could go too. Sad

I´m very interested in Londons architecture. All started with a visit at the new City hall at Open house 2005.
Open house is London’s largest architecture festival (each September at one weekend).
Maybe i´ll be there at September (20th-21th).

    I love the Tate Modern!!

The gallery spaces are so novel as they're divided into subject areas rather than artists or 'isms'.

The book shop is wonderful too - oh and the restaurant. Got amazing views over the Millenium bridge and St Pauls.

Thx a lot Rena! There are some most interesting events I want to see.

I love the Tate modern too! Especially the room with a series of nine huge and wonderful paintings by Mark Rothko, my fav.painter! (even on my signature!) Everytime I'm in London I'm trying to visit the Tate Modern and of course its nice cafe WildHope mentioned! I'm looking forward to see the exhibitions of the late Rothko and the major exhibition of works by Cy Twombly!

Btw Rena  a real pity I missed an most interesting event at the Royal Academy of Arts on architecture and music! The awesome Robin Rimbaud aka scanner, member of Githead (with Wire's frontman Colin Newman!) chaired a talk with with electronic musician, music theorist and record producer Brian Eno (!!!)  and architect and musician Vesna Petresin Robert relating to the very ideas of silence and architecture, featuring artist Tom Philips performing John Cage’s silent work 4’33” on a toy piano. Thanks for posting about that Open House event Londonstorm. I haven't heard about it before but will certainly try to see it this year Smile

That event at the Royal Academy of Arts sounds most interesting too Nevermind. What an interesting line up.

And I certainly am very fond of the Tate Modern. That building is just amazing and so is the art collection and all the temporary exhibitions. I try to visit that place every couple of months.

And here is the view everyone keeps talking about. I took that pic last June:

I like all those cranes in the background and of course the view of the Millenium Bridge and St. Paul's.

There used to be a musician busking at the Thames in front of the Tate who sang David Gray tunes but I haven't seen him for a long time now.

That is a great view to be having with a coffee and cake Smile

Hope you get to see it again soon.

The cranes and the scaffolding. Never stops. I thought that was funny. Yesterday I went to Parliament Hill since the weather has been so nice and I ended up counting the cranes in view. I got up to 21. There are better reasons than this to visit London, I love the architecture too. I try to keep my head up and see the tops of buildings instead of only seeing news agents and store fronts.

Hi - went to Dublin in 2005 and went up to the top of the Guinness factory for the free pint Wink - Seemed to be one of the highest places around and I commented on the no of tower cranes there and counted them - There were over 40 !!

You can see a few if you look close

Great view - and the beer and Guinness pie was good too hic hic

and I look up at buildings sometimes - but i do like to take pics of manhole covers being a drainage engineer Confused

Thanks a lot for that book reference londonstorm. I will certainly try to buy that one Smile

I made good use of that offer by Ryanair and went to London last week. Met a good friend and went to the Tate Modern.

Taking pictures of the art on display is not permitted but here is one of the beautiful engine hall:

There is a street art exhibition at the Tate so the building has been decorated accordingly:

and there are considerably less cranes than in June last year:

(view from the Tate Modern, river Thames, St. Paul's Catheral and Millenium Bridge)

    Great place to visit Rena!

Did you see some inspiring pieces of work?  I'm hoping to see the Klimt exhibition at Liverpool Tate - one not to miss.

Yes Lisa, I saw plenty of inspiring pieces of art. I couldn't find my favourite seascape by Emil Nolde though. There is a huge Nolde exhibition in Berlin at the moment so I hope I will find it there.

Enjoy your visit to the Liverpool Tate!
