Doesn't say what he thought of Mr Gray or when it was. I will try to get some nmore info as this interests me. it must have been well early in Dave's career.

Martyn recalls that he spotted the early talent of David Gray, who has since gone on to huge success.

He said: "I arranged an audition for David to play live in front of Simon Cowell at the office and afterwards Simon said that he didn't want to have to sit in front of a live audition like that again. I don' t think he felt comfortable with it.

Martyn has kindly been in touch with me today - errrr yesterday now !!

 He said he had not been working for BMG for long. He had heard some of DG's music on a cassette and thought it was worth putting to a regular meeting they had to discuss new talent.

Martyn had not done this before but thought it would be good for DG to play in front of the meeting.

This was in about 1992.

When it came to Martyn's turn to comment he got up and let DG in - on his own with a guitar! DG did a couple of songs but Martyn can not remember what they were.

All he remembers is that the discussion after centered on Martyn bringing in someone live to play - Simon looked really uncomfortable - so Dave's live performance was not progressed.

 I wonder what they would do now if they could remember this? lol
