I mentioned this a while back on the "suggestions?" link, but never really got any kind of response as it was kind of buried.
A few bands I like, most notoriously Pearl Jam, now practice this brilliant method of getting the music to the fans - amazingly, mere hours after they play a gig, the show is available for download in high bitrate MP3 for $10 or so. This is almost a 100% profit directly to the artists and the fans. It's a win/win situation. The mix is already being fed into the mixing board, and can be quite easily recorded digitally.
I seriously wish this was the direction this site was leaning towards. For somebody who puts on a consistently excellent show as David does, it's a damn shame to let those concerts pass by with no high quality recordings to document them. Crowd recordings are ok, but leave one lacking quite a lot. I know myself and many, many others would purchase every single of show of a tour, and who wouldn't enjoy a high quality recording of a concert they've attended to enjoy it over and over? I'd pay loads of cash for that experience to relive the superb DG shows we've been to in the last 4 years. Even though the setlist doesn't get mixed up as much as many of us would enjoy, there's enough variation in each song's performance to warrant the need to purchase these unique recordings!
Bottom line is that it can be done fairly easily and I can't imagine any artist of Dave's sensibilities and superior qualities not embracing something like this. If I were out doing gigs, I'd want to document it all for myself and for anybody else interested - besides that fact that some money can be made for minimum effort. It's certainly miles better than the site's other offerings of deals like 2 cds for almost 40 dollars US. Who put the pricing together on that latest Xmas fiasco?! Sheesh.
Please folks, help me push for this! A couple legal hurdles and it's as good as done! Just imagine being able to listen to soundboard recordings of every show from now till whenever!!!
