Julesy, I had several full listens to The National's new album. To me it's yet another beautiful piece of art from one of the best bands around. It's different to High Violet in many respects, even the voice sounds different. I find the album quite touching both from the musical and the lyrical perspective.Listening to the album in full takes you on an emotional journey. I was afraid they might not be able to meet the high expectations they set with High Violet but they did in every respect.To me it's a worthy successor to High Violet.

This is the album for those who do not expect a band to follow the same path with every album and who are open to something new. One of my favourite albums ever.

I totally agree with you on Jake Bugg Elysium.

I'm late to the ball on Ben Howard, but so glad to finally get there! Every Kingdom is a masterpiece and has got me slightly obsessed. The best music purchase I have made since The Black Key's Brothers.

Both of these young Brits will be playing at Osheaga festival in Montreal in August. What a happy day that will be!

Since we seem to have several reference to The National's High Violet in past posts, has anyone had a full listen to their new album Trouble Will Find me?

Andrea Schröder from Berlin/Germany recorded a great cover version of David Bowies 'Heroes' at the famous Hansa Studios in Berlin, the same in which Bowie recorded this song! Today her new single 'Helden' is out and for a limited time you can listen to it as a exclusive streaming on vimeo or soundcloud! A friend wrote this about the song:

Andrea Schroeder sings and plays and Jesper Lehmkuhl plays a version of Bowie´s Helden (Heroes) as if the Berlin wall never fell. It is Marlene Dietrich, Nico and Hanna Schygulla... an aesthetic sense that thanks to Andrea, Jesper and producer Chris Eckman luckily is not lost alltogether. Yet it feels modern... or timeless. Can't believe I didn't post about this one yet: Delta Rae's Carry the Fire. Delta Rae is pretty unique in that they have four lead singers. They each have 2 or 3 songs on the album and sing backup in great harmony on the rest. Carry the Fire is their debut album.

The rest of their songs are a bit more mainstream, but the lyrics are good enough for me to get really in to. Maybe my favorite song, Dance in the Graveyards:

I saw them live in November, and they blew me away live. The energy is amazing. Here is an unplugged medley that showcases each of them well:

Just listened to "Push The Sky Away", Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' beautiful new album!

The Louder than War reviewer John Robb said that the collection of "21st century folk blues songs" succeeds "brilliantly".

Agreed! What a brilliant and beautiful album!

I'm listening to Passenger (Mike Rosenberg), his album is called All the Little Lights. He opened for his friend Ed Sheeran a few weeks ago in Minneapolis, and is touring with him. He did a trio with Ed and Selah Sue (? I think that was her name,the other opener) of Mike's song My Heart's On Fire, that was beautiful. Pretty cool that a few years ago he was busking and now he's opening for Ed!
