On CBS Early Show this morning. Just a snippet of "You're the World to Me" as an instrumental lead-in to one of their stories.

I find it interesting and very telling that almost all the posts in this thread about hearing David in the supermarket, mall, radio are all in counties other than the UK.

Which goes to show and prove that we hardly never hear David's music in the supermarket or public place, or more surprisingly (or not) the radio (which is horribly awful in the U.K i.e. no variety). His popularity in the States is obviously far greater than here in the U.K. which makes me sad and frustrated to live in a country that doesn't appreicate him.

I don't want to veer away from the subject of the thread but just wanted to voice my frustrations at my country and observation of the lack of respect and appreication of DG's music in the U.K.

WhereIFall2011 ~ believe me when I say we do get a share of crap radio here in the states. And because this country is so large, where you travel, you will be exposed to different music.Which is a good thing.  wink

I like the sound of that, being exposed to different kinds of music I like country music, but just never seem listen to it properly, one day I want to go to New Orleans - that would be amazing, so love abit of jazz and blues. I bet that is a very good thing, it's a dream of mine to travel the States and get to listen to various types of music :)

And I am sure there is a fair share of crap radio, but I am very un-inspired by what I hear from the radio, especially by U.K. artists. My musical tastes very much include mostly American artists, big fan of Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Springsteen and John Mayer and those are 3 artists that would never get radio airtime in England, well maybe alittle Bruce. Of course I love some British artists like own DG but some of the rubbish by U.K. artists like James Morrison or James Blunt is just dire.

Dead In The Water today at Freedom Furniture. Only the second time ever I have heard it played apart from my own cd. The first time was live back in 2003. I was almost shocked when I heard it today. Very rare to hear DG here except for the occasional Sail Away or Babylon in the local supermarket.

At least they do own some of his music Sigma. Which cannot be said for most stations in my area. Except for the simply wonderful Berlin Radio One which plays him all the time. And not just the hits but also lesser known songs like those from Lost Songs for instance.

About a week ago they spent about 5-8 minutes playing parts of Freedom and trying to interpret the meaning of the song.

Sunday I came home turned on the radio and there was 'Illuminate' and the same again on Sunday morning. '...show me where the real light is...' I just love this one. I even heard them play Nemesis once.

I told the story before but I just need to tell it again because it's so great. A Berlin Radio One journalist started a programme about literature which focused on 1968 and what he said as an introduction into the show was something along the lines of '1968 was a wonderful year because it was the year David Gray was born'.  Even more remarkable because as mentioned before the programme was focused on literature and not on music.
