Now this is a thread we had on this forum already a couple of years ago.

Since most active members haven't been on here back then I thought it would be interesting to read the answers we would get nowadays.

The idea is like this - what if David Gray got stuck in an elevator with two other musicians and they would start improvising and write a song. Whom would you prefer to be in that elevator with David and why?

    Off you go...

Way to go Rena, great idea!

My first choice has passed, but if we could bring him back would be  Nick Drake !

    Why ? Duh

    Second choice is hard

    Mr.Leonard Cohen

    Mr. Van Morrison

    LISA O'NEILL

    David Ford

All the above are brilliant singer songwriters  Cool

First choice for me would be Clune, just for old times sake. It would have to be new material though. Second choice not so easy, Richard Ashcroft? Or maybe Peter Gabriel? Then again the publicity of say Chris Martin wouldn't hurt DG. There would be this whole new audience saying *** who is this David Gray and how good is he?

Nice one indeed rena - and very nice on Ford Eileen! Save I know he doesn't much care for DG - never pushed it though as to why.............I write it off to artistic snootiness!

I will have to go with my interests du jour - Ryan Adams and Justin Vernon -  I think they could come up with some fun and very interesting stuff - much moreso in my opinion than the likes of ray or damo or even amos lee - I think those collaborations would be too gloomy! all lamenting their fate of getting stuck together lol!

I do like that idea of van the man - to that regard as other back-ups I would add dylan and possibly david gilmour (actually that would be an obvious one as he is another david - duh!)

Waiting for miralake to chime in with tori amos and the like..........!!

I was also thinking Justin Vernon, and for some experience I would add Willie Nelson and Neil Young.   On the flip side, I would add Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, and Joan Baez.  Paradise

    Michael Stipe
They both have a song called "The One I Love."  tongue  Joking aside, I hadn't considered this pairing until I read somewhere that DG had considered MS as the other singer in "Full Steam Ahead."  Whether DG was serious about that or not, I don't know.  Regardless, as a fan of R.E.M., I was disappointed that this did not work out.  I would love to hear these two together.

    KT Tunstall or Amy Macdonald
Okay, I have heard KT, DG, and Ray LaMontagne sing "In the Morning," but just KT and DG would be amazing.  A duet with AM would sound great to me as well.  I guess I'm really wanting a duet with another Scottish female artist, no?  It worked for "Full Steam," so it could work again.  grin

I'd definitely pick Dolly Parton, just to see DG say "WTF, I thought you were busy for the next two years?!  Are you free say, um, NOW?!"  Then watch the awkward encounter that proceeds between the two as they try to come up with something together.  For the other artist, it'd have to be Willie Nelson, so he could be the peacemaker (He's worked with Dolly before, and I'm sure he would have something to help mellow everyone out.)

And, even though I'm not a fan of country, it would be awesome.  I'm sure they'd come up with something.  And, even if they didn't, I'm sure we'd all have a blast.

If you were to take the stuck elevator out of the scenario, my answer would be totally different! ;)

Ha! Are you sitting down???? I actually wouldn't suggest Tori and David get together and make a song (However, if they wanted to work together and make a baby for me to raise I'd be just fine with that!). I think they are too Alpha to work together. Plus, that whole male working with female tension stuff would be too constricting, and I think it would warp their style and authenticity. Not sure they could be honest enough with each other, you know, they might tip toe around each other too much.

I would actually choose for David to start a boy band...don't think Backstreet Boys, think Traveling Wilbury's.Now that they've lost a few members :( I think David would make a great replacement for George Harrison. Listen to this song and JUST TRY not to be in a good mood...

So long story short (too late), I'd like to see him spend several hours in an elevator with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, and resurrect the Wilburys!!!
