nothing to do with the gigs, but i just downloaded the mp3s from the vinyl code and it really s a vinyl recording, with the obligatory needle scratch. i thought that is kinda sweet....

i hope you guys enjoy the fortune of seeing him live... so jealous.

I gave away a penalty, fouled Maradona, hacked down Gordon Ramsay - DG

Wow!!! What a great show and what a great night!!

So nice to finally meet miralake - as we said there was never any doubt about getting along so well!! A very nice pre-gig warm up at the lovely hyatt in downtown sacramento.........and then off to the crest theatre a couple blocks away - what a charming and wonderful little venue - we were up in the balcony but it was like he was still directly in front of us - very nice!

As it always goes with me the second night of a tour is always so much more special - the first is usually filled with huge emotion and I just get lost in the excitement of the moment - the second gig tends to be more "intellectual" if you will as the excitement (while certainly still there) has ebbed off enough to allow for a more proper focus on the gig itself - and what a gig! I thought Ryan was completely on his game all night - from a more stripped down verison of Carolina to start - a wonderful wonderful totally stripped down version of let it ride that I caught the later 2/3 of as I almost missed it with a break to the john!! oy! He was really funny through the evening - lots of good jokes - some jabs at the internet and some of the comments from his board - DG should do more of that lol! (then I would really be in trouble!!)............and then the last song of the encore with his tribute to Jason Isbell and his having to suffer through hours of metal rock on the bus - and so ryan with a hood/cape on jamming some heavy metal to finish it all off

    other highlights for me were

silivia plath, lucky now, firecracker, crossed out name, la cienega, beautiful sorta and come pick me up (just dra) - encore was fun as this was his last gig with jason (who rena we heard in his entirety thank you!).

All in all another great evening made better by hooking up with another good one from the board!!

    Such a fun night!

Such a pleasure to meet you DCA! I knew we'd have tons to talk about and I couldn't wait to pick your brain. You are a very interesting and intelligent man, and so open and honest...which I think you said gets you in trouble at times! Ha!! Here's to keeping it real!!

Wow, I had no idea Ryan Adams was so goofy! He would sing a song just dripping with emotion and so heartfelt...and then everyone would applaud and he would immediately go into a stand-up routine! Then he'd make a sarcastic remark i.e. "here's another one about my feelings"...and go into song again. Seriously...I felt like a yo-yo....up down up down up down. All of it genuine though. He sounded GREAT, very clean, pure voice. And when he was funny he was VERY funny..extremely sharp and quick with the wit. Reminded me very much of David Gray when he interacts with the audience and starts speaking off the cuff. Such a huge sign of intelligence to be able to sit in the moment, all cells firing at full capacity while 5,000 eyes are on you. Ugh...some people have it all!

Anyway, Two was by far my favorite of the night. I love If I Am a Stranger, of course, but I have never heard Two done the way he did it last night. Slower, quieter,  slightly more angst filled than usual. Ashes & Fire is now firmly in my top 3...do you remember what he said it was about DCA?? I think he said "this one is about being really stoned walking around NY, and it is also about nothing". Does that sound right? Sylvia Plath was great...I love anything on a piano. Plus, I named my cat after Sylvia Plath...the actual lady, not the song. But there you have it.

Nice set list with the anecdotes and all DCA!!! Did you do that from memory? Please say no or else I really need to get my head checked!

And last but not least...here's a favorite of mine from James McMurtry, whom Jason will be joining soon.

well thanks much!! I wish we had more time to chat actually - darn gig got in the way lol!!

hahah on the set list - and no I didn't do that from memory - totally stolen off the dra board..............probably should have said that!!

I bought my james and jason tix first thing this am - something to look forward to in november!

what a great day - easy breakfast - slow ride back to the city blasting ryan - stopped by the fairmont to say hi to the crew - three guys there today that I worked with 25 years ago! - tacos in the mission and now back at the p55 for my adopted team in the world series - doesn't get much better than that!!

glad you made it home safe.......................what a great evening!

oh and sorry - spot on with your recollection of ashes........on both the stoned walking in nyc (I can relate!) and nothing..........love it on sylvia!!

listening to youtubes of la cienega - that was probably the highlight - even with the loud obnoxious lady!

    definitely the highlight

so funny on that diatribe he couldn't make this one work solo before he ripped into it! and now we see there was precedence..........lol

ryan's tribute to jason enduring the death metal on the bus through the tour.............lol

and the entire audio of dra explaining exactly why he cannot play la cienega - only to go ahead and play it!!!

    so sweet!

Great find DCA!!!! He had me completely convinced the song was impossible to play solo. What a nut! I looked to see if anyone posted Two from that night. That one was pretty special. I'll keep looking and if I find it I will post!

I was just talking to a co-worked about Ryan. He said Ryan is famous for having a hissy-fit and not finishing his sets. I told him he played a solid 2.5 hours and was in a fabulous mood. Were the hissy-fits pre-sobriety??

lol yes he has a bit of a reputation yes - that said so did van the man - for the most part he just cranked it out - but yeah when he got pissed apparently he got pissed! Not as much walking out I don't think but also chastizing annoying members of the audience lol................but yeah he was pretty wired back in the day!

I saw him just once back then and he was great mainly business and no where near as funny as the other night

    working on carnegie hall..................................
