Well food for thought there Noelcampbell.

I have seen DG perform a few times as a solo and I could sit and watch a full night of just the man. However, I think that with some of the performance seen on recent tours with the exceptional talents of the new band there are some songs which have "added value" using a term I hear at work Tongue Tied

Listening to DG performing Song to the Siren at the TCT concert at the Royal Albert Hall in March was probably my most amazing moment for a DG song. Doing that as a solo was the perfect situation. When he starts of the night with shine is also a perfect DG solo moment.

But when I hear my fav PFM with DG and all the band rocking away and can feel the buildings foundations shaking I am glad that the band are there as well. This goes for the whole show as well.

Going solo may be something that DG would toy with as he said going back to basics on the Bare Bones with Rob and Neill was what he felt like doing at that time.

One thing is for sure - DG will always do what he thinks is right for his music - if this means going solo then I am sure it will be right for him if he thinks so - and i will be there.

But after seeing him appear to be enjoying himself so much with the band on the last few tours, even if he does some solo stuff, then working with the band will be part of his vision as well.

I think that having the mix of accoustic then full band was good - but as DG comes up with more and more songs then it is going to be harder for him to decide what he wants to play.

He may feel that a solo tour with alternate full band tours is what he wants to do. If he thinks of doing an acoustic album then he may think that a solo tour would be best to promote it. But if he comes out with a full band album them then having the band with him may be required.

Phew what a thought to go to bed with - I will not sleep now - but I will have to try so

Interesting thought though - thanks for raising it - but i do not want to be responsible for the band's P45's lol

    Nighty night Noelc

    Sleep

Well Noel, what an interesting question.

Basically I could watch David Gray 24/7. Just him and a guitar. Or a piano that is. And I am sure he will capture an entire audience for a full performance just like he did at the Royal Albert Hall last month for just 20 minutes. He is that good.

And I truly enjoyed the rare experience at the TCT.

Still I would not want to miss any of the other guys. Especially Rob and Neill. Robbie and his energetic bass, driving everyone along. Neill and his brilliant way of playing the guitar.  Then Keith and his drumming which I truly enjoy and James at the keyboards.

On the last tour there was an energy radiating from the stage that was truly exceptional. Them together on a stage as a band certainly add up to much more than the sum of the individuals. It was fun to watch all the glances and smiles and laughter exchanged on stage. They obviously enjoyed playing together, first of all DG.

I think the way it was done on the last tour was a great way of mixing both elements. David solo and him with just Rob and Neill who always got introduced as his 'great friends' and then the whole band. The accoustic solo performances are amazing but so are the full power whole band ones. It's just a totally different experience and a totally different flavour to each and every song.

Maybe David could be persuaded to put in one or two solo gigs in summer which could come in handy with Robbie spending a bit of time with the family and getting acquainted with his new baby.
