I think "Coming Down" is the most poetic and beautiful song David has ever written and possibly one of his most emotional songs......I play it and still after all these years get chills 'cause it's so f**king perfect.
I wish David would sing it in his concerts more often

I agree with many of the above altho' I do not think that 'Gathering Dust' or 'Coming Down' are actually underrated. They are often in the top five of people's selections.'As I'm leaving' and 'Let the Truth Sting' are certainly underrated though. My selection is 'Alive' as not many people have heard it For some strange reason it did not get on LISM..... Plus 'Red Moon' from 'Lost Songs'

Most definitely, for me it's A Century Ends, and As I'm Leaving. LOVE both of those songs.

Another underrated David Song is A Clean Pair of Eyes. This song easily fits into any of the phases of David's career with its epic piano and stunning lyrics. It is definatly one of his best.

I second this! By hearing DG's "Lost Songs" for the first time since a very long time I have to say that "A Clean Pair Of Eyes" is a really wonderful song! I's a pity that I never had the chance to hear this song live...Perhaps David Gray will play this great song on one of his concerts at 2008. Hope I'll be there...

P.S.: Happy New Year to one and all!

I agree on Clean Pair of Eyes,  I also think that Magdalena is underrated, rarely mentioned and haven't heard of it being played for a long time.

    Cheers and Happy New Year!Drinks

    'All The Love'.

Unfortunately it hasn't made it onto any album. One of my personal 3 most favourite songs of all time.

Most underrated... Babylon! kidding Stick out tongue

Hmm... i'd say the majority of his b-sides.  They usually get overlooked simply because they're b-sides and assumed to be rushed or not as good as his other stuff.  Lorelei is absolutely beautiful, and The Lights of London was my favourite for a looong time, its very haunting Smile

Also, Living Room from ACE... love the metaphores in that one.

Um....some underrated songs (one from each record) IMO are:

Let the Truth Sting - ACE, What Are You? - Flesh, Sell Sell Sell - SSS, We're Not Right - WL, Hold On - LS 95-98, December - ANDAM, Disappearing World - LISM.

Some underrated unreleased songs and B-Sides IMO are:

All the Love, Tired of Me, Crimson Lightning, Madder Rain, Mighty Wrong Time.

MWT is by far my favorite outta all B-Sides and Unreleased stuff and is probably one of my top 5 favs overall, I just wish Dave would have put it on a record.

    A Century Ends...Lost Songs 95-98
    Flesh.................A New Day at Midnight
Sell, Sell, Sell.....Life In Slow Motion
    White Ladder......A Thousand Miles Behind
    The EPs 92-94

i too must champion silver lining as it was the immediate one that did it for me when it was released here in 1998 or 1999 (almost ten years past!!) just remember like yesterday reading a small blurb about it's forthcoming release in Q or NME and eagerly waiting. all the hits on that disc and the hauntingly beautiful silver lining was the one. to this day still my top tune on that discBig Smile

    I can't name one, here's a few:

    Birds Without Wings

    Smile

    Aint No Love

I love all his covers though, all of OTMB and also The Killers and Say Hello and Wave Goodbye.

I believe so many are underrated, and you all have mentioned many of them, so I will just add:

    Mystery of Love.
