Thought this might provoke some discussion. For Rena and BW, it is obvious you are DG's most loyal fans, but that doesn't mean whatever you say should be accepted by everyone else. Keith the drummer is obviously a brilliant drummer or he wouldn't have been considered, but others do agree that the sound he produces gives DG's music a "same old" type of rythym to the songs that weren't there before. DG's early music is the period that I am most fond of, and this ain't it. After all, I think the reason he remains popular with his fans is because he has a different sound to others. As said, try it on the new stuff and move forward, as it detracts from the older stuff. (My opinion). Bluewater, I am not guessing about what he sounds like, I sat 10 ft. away from him at St Johns. And I too have been to many other concerts around the UK over the last 2 - 3 years. So ner, ner, na ner, ner back to you! Anyway, DG's greatest songs sound better with just him and his guitar. PS. I'm right about the T-shirt! Going to bed.

I'm going to wait and see how Keith does. He seems "safe" on the new cuts on the Greatest Hits, which may be a good place to be right now. I noticed on "You're the World To Me" that those great harmonies are absent. One of Clune's biggest contributions was his vocals. As far as drums, "Please Forgive Me" I don't think can be matched by anyone but Clune. Absolute genius. It's him just as much as David...My 2cents

Yes Woldig, you must accept everything that we say! Actually I never said that so you must have read my post incorrectly. We all have the righ to any opinion you want but when we make statements about another's abilities, its best to have some good info to base it on. I saw a huge change from SJSS to the recent UK gigs and I expect that if you have an open mind you might find the same thing when you get to another gig. If not then at least you will have some current info upon which to base your opinion. Face it Clune is gone. It will be ok.
If I close my eyes....

Rena: I have just noticed that you were referring to the Bare Bones gigs at SJSS in July. You can't compare those with what Keith Pryor is like these days. He had just joined them back then. By now he truly is a part of the band. And me stalking David ? (I assume you meant him not Keith) No way; I have had plenty of excellent opportunities to do so this year but I would never bother him.
Hi Rena, I agree. SSJS was totally different to any other time I've seen Dave. Keith seemed a little nervous, I imagine because he knew he had very large shoes to fill. Do you remember our conversation in the pub about Clune? When will it end? Maybe you should post the story about Clune being on 'holiday' . People are saying it's just not the same anymore, and here I was thinking that Dave's plan was to make it different, to breathe new life into it. Well, I love Keith, I think he's amazing and just what was needed. The absolute correct decision, in my opinion. I just searched Keith Pryor on AOL and found this, great pics http://www.contactmusic.com/new/home.nsf/webpages/davidgrayx31x10x07

I certainly have got a very weak spot for neat suits and thus really appreciate the courtesy they give their audience by wearing those. But frankly, I would love them just the same if they performed in rags. MyCariad: People are saying it's just not the same anymore, and here I was thinking that Dave's plan was to make it different, to breathe new life into it.
I couldn't agree more, MyCariad. I am very impressed by the way David's music is evolving constantly. There certainly is no danger we will ever find him in one of those hard-to-bear-best-of-some-decade-long-gone shows filled with artists who still hang on to the one hit they had about 20 years ago. Although David's first songs still are outstanding and their sentiments are still valid...

Went to see David in Wolverhampton the other week, hadnt seen him live for 2 years must say I was disapointed not to see the old drummer I always thought he was really entertianing, intresting shirts too. Didnt really like the new guy that much, although me and my friend were impressed with the bassist ,he was getting well into it. Dont know if it was because I was stood right in frount of the drum kit but the drums did seem to be really loud. Also wasnt really in to the suits that much, like some guy stood behind me said they all looked abit like accountants. Nothing detracting from the gig though which was brilliant. David on form as always. Thought it was great that he supported himself with that acoustic set, sent shivers down my spine when he started singing Shine.

I saw Keith the first time in Lucerne, Switzerland and I really missed Clune there. Not even mainly for him playing the drums, because it was a BB concert and the drums played only a minor role. But for the vocals. I love Clune's back ground vocals. I saw Keith again on the 12th Nov in the Roundhouse, London and this time, with the full band songs, he really impressed me. He definitely put his mark on some of the songs and he made them even more powerful, stronger. Although I still missed Clune's voice in some songs, I have to admit. It is true that the songs don't sound the same again. But that is not all on Keith's account. David Gray seems to really enjoy re-inventing his songs. And he is doing such a great job at it too! You can see how much he is enjoying himself now. He didn't look that happy when he broke through with White Ladder. He has won back his musical freedom and I am really glad he did!

Wishing the new drummer every success, he has a hard act to follow. Was devestated to hear Clune had gone, he was as much a part of the music as David himself. And the way he could twirl those drumsticks I always thought Clune played drums not as percussion but as a lead instrument. He is a drumming legend for me

Does anyone know why Klune has not been touring with david lately? I was at the LA show and as the drummer walked on stage I yelled out to good old Klune and upon further investigation, and an obvious reaction from the unknown drummer, he was obviously not Klune. Anyone have some info?

Hi gmnadal, Clune hasn't been touring with David ever since late 2006. Here in this hand written letter David tells us why. Have a look at the davidgray.com forums. There are several threads discussing the topic. I moved your post to the Music forum where it will receive more attention. Rena
