Hi everybody,
this was a great night at the beautiful Royal Albert Hall. Most artists had just 20 minutes for their set and so had David who stayed on stage for 21 minutes. That place has marvellous acoustics and therefore was a perfect setting for David who played all on his own, just him and a guitar - or him and a piano respectively. In this place his strong voice was even more impressive.
David said he was going to make up the setlist as he went; there is no printed one.
Here is the setlist:
- The One I Love
- Song To The Siren (Tim Buckley cover)
- The Other Side
- Babylon
I have never seen him play an entire set on his own and have to say it was a great experience. 'The One I Love' usually is the only song he performs playing an electric guitar so hearing this played solo on an acoustic one surely was something else.
''Song To The Siren was so beautiful, especially with those perfect acoustics in such a perfect setting. This song has always been one of my favourite covers by David but this version was one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard live.
David then went to the piano and started with the first notes of 'World To Me' but then decided to play 'The Other Side' instead. Thank you Darren for posting the video footage of that song, much appreciated. Due to the microphone incident this was fun to watch, very funny and absolutely professional how David dealt with that.
He finished with 'Babylon'.
Four songs aren't much but still well worth coming for.
This was a charity event for the Teenage Cancer Trust with different artists performing on several nights and they had certainly saved the best for last. Of course David was the best in my opinion but I also enjoyed Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend of the Who performing an acoustic set. Unusual and real good. During the breaks inbetween performances films about the TCT's work and achievements and the stories of several teenagers who had been undergoing cancer treatments were shown. A rap song performed and written by two young cancer survivers for a fellow patient and friend who had lost his life to the illness was heart moving and brought everyone in the audience to their feet.
It was a pleasure meeting some of the winners of the TCT contest. First of all my great friend Djk who won a pair of tickets and took me along as a guest. It was also great meeting you Justin and Doug, Andy and Darren and V1nesh and your friend. Sorry we missed out on meeting Hema and Heidi who were sitting somewhere at first row where we could not get to. The rest of us were all sitting together so it was great fun and those were real good seats with an excellent view. And they were even on the right side of the venue regarding watching David at the piano, ie on the left.
Here are some pics of our happy winners and their guests enjoying a special night:

It was great meeting you all. Have a safe trip home to Colorado in two weeks Justin, and Darren enjoy your snow board holidays next week.
