What a crowd, what a place.

David and the band truly enjoyed themselves tonight.

Here is the setlist and thanks to the guy who let me take the photograph:

Destroyer wasn't played, neither was Angus nor Breathe.

I have always wanted to hear 'In The Morning' live and I could hardly believe my luck when David started playing that one, all on his own, just him and a guitar. Very beautiful. So was 'From Here You Can Almost See The Sea'. Of course. David said something along the lines of 'this one is a delicate flower'. It certainly is.

Nightblindness was so emotional and intense, went straight to my core. I was so much into it, I had a steward walking up to me at the end of that song, asking me if I needed some water. And she wouldn't believe me when I said no. It must have been something in the way I looked ... Well, it sure got to me.

That crowd started singing along right from the beginning. And everyone on stage looked very happy. So did the audience afterwards.

To everyone I've met - it was nice seeing you again. And Whereifall I saw you from afar but could not get to you before the concert and you were gone afterwards. I hope you have had a good time. I think almost everyone had.

I would have wished for a little more attention to the support acts though.

    Nighty night everyone.

Edited to say that they played a very intense version of 'Lately' at Hammersmith. First of all Neill's slide guitar takes that song to an entirely other dimension. And David's improvised part included an unusual variation of the usual Bob Dylan quote at the end.

Sounds like another enchanted evening.  You folks in the UK are very blessed to have him there with you. To be able to go to so many of his shows in the same year -- you've got it made. Wink

It sure was, Eileen. It's very special to be able to go to so many shows in a row. But it's this tour only. I will just go to one or two shows per tour in the future. I certainly don't want to start getting on anybody's nerves. Those guys should be able to see different faces once in a while wink

It certainly is most interesting to see all the little changes that are made to the songs and the show from day to day. We kept wondering how David and the band manage to get even better but obviously it's because they keep working on improving the music each and every day. And as a band they are so tight now.

So thanks for the music David and of course the band, Neill, Rob, Keith and James.

I was there! :D Best night of my life.  Even better than the last time I saw him in 2001, the atmosphere was completely different this time round!  Back in Earls Court, I sang along to EVERY single word, and moved around in my seat etc while the people around me just looked... dead.  I even got some dirty looks from this one woman and all this time I thought I did something wrong.  But last night... oh my *god*.  His music connected with EVERYONE, even us lot in the circle (next time i'm getting standing).

Its a shame he didnt play Destroyer, but the rest of the concert was so immense I didnt really mind.  And Nightblindness just blew me away... first I just sat there with my jaw dropped, then when he started adlibbing "where were you when I needed you", I actually had tears in my eyes.  My mate (who isnt really much into DG, aside from the odd radio favourite) actually got a bit worried about me LOL.

I'm still just in awe, best night ever.

I have some photos to put up too :D

    Hi Rena

I got your PM, but been so busy i wasn't able to read it till i got back! i did see you last night, wasn't sure if to say hello n stuff, im abit shy i guess! next time though i will im sure :)

My God! this was my 13th time and its really just gets better and better! the crowd last night were just so so so into it! and so was i! i was standing at the front, standing right in front of neil on guitar, a perfect position i believe, was able to see all the band perfectly and it was just perfect! i don't think i can get tired of david gray gigs such are there unique and joyous occasions :)

the supports were just great too, and yea agree with you Rena i wish the crowd had given them more time, kathryn and neil especially, some guys behind me were very rude i thought! phil campbell was great, liked him alot!

david and the band were on perfect form i thought, really feeling off the audience, and loving the love i think! if that makes sense! and Nightblindness is just one of the greatest compositions ever now just awe inspiring! and im loving the other side, one of my new favs thanks to the end :) a word on keith again, and this may sound alittle controversial but i do prefer him to clune, with keith on drums, the band has now got a whole different dynamic, such a tight band its amazing and keith amazes me everytime with his powerful drumming!

i just can't wait to see him live again and maybe hear some new stuff, im quietly confident that the new album will be a big hit, and maybe push david back into the limelight he deserves :)

    Paul

edited to say i hope you had a great night Rena, i didnt see you down the front but im sure you had a great time :) hope to see you next time!

Hi whereifall, sounds like an excellent time.

Many of us share your sentiments about Keith, he has worked very hard.

Hammersmith was an amazing David Gray gig! It was my 10th time and I agree with Eddcoates, ziavigri, whereifall and Rena (thx for the setlist!): "we kept wondering how David and the band manage to get even better but obviously it's because they keep working on improving the music each and every day. And as a band they are so tight now." I didn't expect that David and his band could get any better since I saw them at the London Roundhouse in Nov. 2007! But they're getting better and better - with a David who seems to be more passionated than ever and with the most powerful band I've seen in the last few years - and I've seen quite a few! It's pure fun watching the brilliant Robbie Malone 'dancing' with his bass guitar, feeling nearly hypnotized by Keith drumming and Neills fab guitar playing... And once more it was overwhelming and very emotional hearing David Grays rejuvenated powerful voice live! I can't help it but I think that most of the time DG sounds live better than on his CDs!  'Lateley' was so intense, 'Slow Motion' and 'Sea' so beautiful, 'Nightblindness' was as always the hypnotizing highlight, 'Otherside' sounds so powerful now...! The crowd was good and the band appearantly enjoyed their gig, but I know for sure that in some places on the Continent DG often is forced to give more than one encore! Special greetings to Rena and Djk I met in London! Smile

    Hey hey,

Just a quick note to say what a blast this was... amazing performance by the band going wild (Robbie !..) and David's voice was excellent and just the whole gig must have been one of the best ever...

A few quick highlights ? The whole show ! I loved every single bit of it. Great venue, superb sound, but most of all the enthousiasm of David and the band was excellent.

Did not see any camera's but this would have been a great DVD. Or CD or anything really...

Posted a few pictures and some other info on my weblog

Take care and see you in Cambridge !

    Marcel.

Did he really start with Shine? I was at the bar and walked in during In The Morning but didn't think I'd missed a whole song. I hope I didn't, that's the one song I've always wanted to hear live!
