No way, you wouldn't really ask him that would you? Why would that be the one question you would choose to ask him? An answer which (if he gave one, which I very much doubt he would) would be accompanied with so much pain. If you have ever lost a loved one to cancer or anything else, I'm sure you would think of another question.
