Hi everybody, it was suggested to publicly display our community members' birthdays to make it easier to send out greetings and start a party Actually on this site there is a birthday function that is currently switched off. When turned on, people's birthdays would show at the bottom of the main forum page where all the other board statistics are. Birthdays will show as long as people enter their birthdays in their profiles. We would like our members to decide if they want this function turned on or off. Please take part in the poll below. This will be open for two weeks so as many members as possible will be able to participate. Please let us know if you want the birthday function to be switched on or off

there are over 30,000 members, how exactly would that work and how do i alter my profile to take my birthday out and as we have over 30,000 members, what sort of percentage are you looking for to vote, to put peoples birthdays on public display, i mean if 20 people vote out of 30,000 and 15 of those want it displayed, you go ahead and display it,? like all those that dont vote for whatever reason, and those that vote no, dont count?, im just wondering how this would work

Only if there was a filter, only people who have been active recently or have posted in the last x days. otherwise we would have 100 birthdays a day!

Hi elsie, the birthday had to be set when signing on to the new boards in August this year. Therefore those members who haven't been on here since won't be featured in the birthday list; neither will those who want to keep their birthdays private. I think we will end up with considerable less than 30.000 birthdays on display.

This will be a majority vote meaning if the majority votes for yes then all birthdays that are displayed in people's personal profiles will be shown on that particular day of the year. If the majority votes for no then none will be displayed at all. Everyone is invited to participate in the poll and everyone is free to set his/her birthday on not set. By the way, both personal profiles as well as birthday threads in the general forum are on public display anyway. So we are asking everyone to participate in the poll.

yeah, what i meant about public, is that most of the active members dont go into general, maybe ive got this wrong, how will it be displayed exactly, see the thing i have with this majority thing, is that, most general posters, dont go anywhere else, so will not even see this poll, so they wont have a say, the majority you will use is the majority of those that vote, not the majority of regular posters, does that make sense, maybe nobody cares, but if your going to display personal stuff, then all active members should have a say, not just the few that might spot this here, does that make it clear what im trying to say

I checked my birthday and it wasn't set, so I don't think everyone had to do it for the new boards. My birthday read 01-01-1932. I see what you are saying Elsie. Maybe Rena, you can post a thread in General to direct their attention to this thread.

elsie, as I have stated above in order to get a most sound result we would like as many members as possible take part in that poll. As the general forum is unmoderated and I am not supposed to post in there I'd like to ask you or any other regular poster of the general forum to post a link to the poll so even those who do not frequent the other parts of the board will get a chance to participate. In regard to things being public or not. Generally speaking on the internet only those things remain unseen by the public that you decide not to put up on there in the first place. Judging from the amount of views the treads on all boards on here get posts in every section seem to be viewed by many more people than just those who are actually actively taking part in those threads.

I can only see a 'yes' and a 'no' option. Why must these things always be so black and white? Can't we have a moderate liberal option for people who couldn't give a toss either way? I reckon it'd lead by a landslide. In the absence of this option, I'm just going to let you do what you like and go back to picking dry skin off my feet.
Allegedly.

Really Rena? You can't post in the unmoderated section? Is that what the final decision was? See, I thought everyone was game for the moderators to not moderate, (as in move threads around, combine threads, try to resolve arguements etc.) but surely that didn't mean to not post at all. I'm confused.
