I last posted here back in October, shortly after going (for the first time ever) to see David Gray play in Toronto, Canada. It was a difficult period in time for me (and for a few people from the posts on the board) and I had hoped my words and a song (Shine) helped someone out in some way. Anyway, much to my amazement (absolute astonishment) David Gray came to play in Ottawa. NOBODY plays Ottawa - it's either Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver, which means either a 2 hour or 5 hour drive or a 5 hour flight. And Ottawa is the capital of Canada! You'd think a band would stop by for a visit. Anyway, I digress. The point is, in a brilliant display of intelligence (heheheh) David Gray came to play the capital of Canada and boy did we ever like it. Being a government town, Ottawa is a bit conservative. We sit politely to listen and perhaps clap, but only if it won't disturb the performer's concentration and only if it's been cleared with the administrators first. Really, all we need is the proverbial pat on the cheek and tweek on the nose to let us know it's alright to just screw it and let loose. He did so and so we did. The seats were wonderfully padded, so it may not have been a raucous free for all, but people were jumping up and dancing or at the very least showing life signs. Nothing to detract from enjoying the music. =)But the real moment of significance for me was during the encore, when he returned to the stage with his acoustic guitar to play Shine, alone and in the spotlight. What was doubly significant was that my ex was there with me, all the way from Vancouver. Don't ask about that, nobody argues with love when love makes a point. Yeah, he's still my ex and I don't have a clue what is going on, nor do I think I ever will. I stopped arguing long ago and now I'm just going with it. As long as the feelings are real, they're real, and there's just no getting around it or ignoring it. Apparently, I'm fine with that. It's not bothering me too much at all. I learned through this process that the whole relationship, marriage thing is more often about control and programming than it is about love. I'll be content to just love him. =) And maybe I'll be blessed with another love, one that is close by and supportive of my life's goals, or maybe not. Again... no clue. Again... not too bothered by it.If you care for any of this to make sense to you, my post is still there from last fall. Otherwise, please disregard. I just had to say, he played it, we heard it... and it's amazing how profound a simple action or word, note or lyric can be when the whole world is listening. He probably had no idea that for two people (at least) it was an act of enormity. =) I'm just happy I didn't black out. I think I did shortly after, cuz I don't remember the rest of the encore... I hope he comes back again, because he has a large pocket of fans in the pretty, little oasis of Ottawa. I didn't have to get a hotel, take a day off work, or drive for 10 hours (that includes both ways). What luxury!!! Sometimes I do wish this country were a little smaller. You can drive for 10 hours and still be in the same province. There's 13 of them, if you include the territories. It'd take you a week to drive from one side to the other. And yes, Americans say they are Canadians all the time and it bugs me to no end. That's it! I'm done. Byeeeeee!

And where else can two buddies take a peaceful stroll into the night. ( And the fans did not bother them despite having waited for some time and driven many miles). [ 31 August 2006: Message edited by: Bluewater ][ 31 August 2006: Message edited by: Bluewater ]

I am addicted to amphetamine for about almost 20 years now,I take it every day.this is not really a problem for me,I almost function like a normal person,if you don't know it you do not notice it except for one thing:I don't know anymore how it is to really feel but since I listen to your music, david, I remember how it really feels like to have real feelings. Thanks for learning me how to feel again....x

I went to the NAC on Tue, Aug 8, '06 to see the divine Mr. Gray. David, you really speak to me. I am a lover of music, in almost all forms...but never did I understand until you just how it could move the soul so stupendously. Before the concert, I was of this feeling, now that I've seen you live, the feeling has deepend tenfold. As the music of Elton John, Billie Holiday and many other legends have played for many years in the homes of our forefathers, your music will play in mine for years to come. In gratiae, should you ever come back to Ottawa (the fabulous Nation's Capital of Canada), you have a home, and some mean curry to boot.G

No kidding, Bluewater. I walk everywhere I go and am not afraid to take a stroll by myself at around 1am if I can't sleep. I am afforded much more freedom as a lady in Ottawa than I ever was in Toronto, though - as far as personal safety issues go. And the canal is right on my way home. =) Gotta love that.
