I am just sorting out my vids from Friday. I will be putting them on youtube, but it may take a while as I am also trying to finish a boring NVQ Sleep

Here are the first one's ....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd7iy5W7hYQ

There are a couple which are in two parts as I accidentally pressed the stop button Tongue Tied

Apologies once again for the quality, they are much clearer on my phone, also it's a bit difficult recording and watching at the same time Big Smile

Roy took loads of pics, I will post them as soon as he's got them onto the laptop.

Hope you like them, we have watched them over and over again Big Smile

Hmm, lumberhacks eh?  Might have to send over some friends of the forest in case those lumberjacks get out of control. Stick out tongue

    Great Review by Djk.

Makes me even more bummed that i missed out on David's big Return :) And i've been to Thetford Forest a couple of times and its a great looking part of the country! :)

Good Photos too by My Cariad :) thanks to those that attended and have provided great pics, clips and words or review

The New Music is sounding AMAZING! I am rather overexcited by it all :)

Oh and i have a question for those lucky people that attended, was Say Hello Wave Goodbye and Babylon played with the Full band or acoustically? First time since before the greatest hits tour for Babylon surely if so?!@?!

Thanks to all for reviewing, and as always DJK for the most detailed one Big Smile

Looking forward to your full Nemesis video, I have already posted a taster but I was too impressed and blown away to record the full thing.... also my hands were getting tired and did not want to use your head as a stable base....

Anyways, we enjoyed the gig as always and are now already half way through France for our next one in Lucerne. A couple of days in the french alps will do us good and then up to Switserland ....

Might be a bit offline for a few days... but I will try and make some videos and photos of the gig in Lucerne for everyone here to enjoy !

Bon Soir from Troyes in France !

What a great review Djk. And those are lovely pictures MyCariad.

I could not wait to put down my thoughts after the concert but had no internet access until now. So sorry for not saying anything so far. Just need to get settled in my hotel and will be back with a longer post in a few minutes. Just this much: It was amazing. Absolutely amazing.

sorry folks, this interweb connection keeps breaking down every few minutes. and takes my unfinished review to some mystic cyberspace realm thus forcing me to restart writing it again and again.

So I will call it a night and give it another try in the morning. Nighty night.

PS have I mentioned it was amazing?

    A review of the thetford gig which i found on the internet;

David Gray lights up Thetford Forest

    Published Date: 11 July 2009
The sky darkened and the air chilled, but there was a lot of warmth in the crowd as David Gray approached the end of his 90 minute set.
As the acclaimed singer-songwriter belted-out his long list of heartfelt hits, there weren't many who didn't immediately spread their arms around their loved-ones and held them tight throughout the evening.

But the night didn't dissolve into a cheesy love fest - David Gray's skill as an entertainer and live act made it a show that could appeal to anyone.

I have heard his rousing voice hundreds of times on CDs and the radio, but its clarity and power, and basically how good it sounded live, still came as a pleasant shock to me.

Despite the serious nature and tone of some of his songs, he came across as a fun, down-to-earth guy who was at ease talking to the crowd with his quips on the Norfolk/Suffolk divide, the Little Chef on the A11, and the odd technical hitch.

He had everyone singing and clapping along to one of his most well-known tunes Babylon - and was clearly as passionate about the song as when it was released in 2000 - and got the crowd waving their mobile phones to the beautiful This Year's Love.

And it wasn't a night just for his greatest hits - he also provided a taster menu of songs from his forthcoming album which, if you've liked his albums up until now, you will certainly enjoy.

It was also an evening for discovering a new artist in charming folk singer John Smith, who warmed-up the crowd before the headlining act.

His style of songs ran in the same vein of David Gray's, but his acoustic sound was more raw and edgier, and acted as the perfect starter for the main course yet to come.

Hello again. I changed from wifi to LAN so hopefully this time the line will be steady.

Most has been said already so I will just add a few personal impressions.

First of all I was shocked how good they all are, how good David is, he has been gifted with such a powerful voice. It's been a year and three months since I last saw him, a year and four months even since I last saw them as a band. I was happy to see them in the same band line up as on the last tour. They all are excellent musicians, Rob on his bass as enthusiastic as ever, Neill who is an outstanding guitar player especially those slide guitar parts take you to another level, Keith who did an excellent job on his drums, powerful and driving. And last but not least James whom David used to call 'the magnificient' on the last tour - this time we could even see him as he was not hidden behind his keyboards like he was last year. They all seemed to have enjoyed that concert inspite of a few technical difficulties, especially Rob was beaming with smiles all night.

I was shocked at how large the gap is - between David on stage and every other live act I have seen. He has such a powerful presence on stage, the variations in his strong voice, the easy way he plays the crowd and the professional way he deals with technical difficulties. And honestly, what makes him stop playing and readjusting and fumbling with equipment would pass as one of the better moments with other live acts. I have seen plenty of otherwise good concerts getting ruined completely by a lousy sound set up. David's sound engineer Graham Pattison is doing a great job.

The way the piano was set has been mentioned before. I think David wanted to see the crowd's reaction for a change, wanted to see them for once. The way he usually plays that instrument he is much more secluded from everyone.

Djk has won our little 'what is the first song on the tour' competition. Congrats Dave, it was World To Me, I had voted for Sail Away which came in second. They played a lot of everyone's long time favourites, it was an outdoor gig so there was no room for the quiet little tunes that many of us love so much. It was great to hear how certain parts had been changed, transformed, how variations were put into well known songs. Another guitar part here, another rythm there, David singing lines in a different way, much more powerful and emotional I thought. Very well done.

It's hard to pick out favourites, 'The Other Side' definitely, This Year's Love, Destroyer - what a great surprise as I haven't expected to hear that one, Disappearing World, and Please Forgive Me as the perfect last song.

I heard 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' by Marc Almond live a few months ago - David's version is beyond comparison.   And his Bob Dylan lines at the end were breathtakingly beautiful.

What I was looking forward to most was a first listen to some of the new songs from the upcoming album of course. From what we got to hear that night it will be superb. 'Draw The Line' is going to be a classic, it comes with a hypnotizing drive that draws you into the song, excellent lyrics too. Fugitive of course and the lovely emotional Jackdaw.

And then there was 'Nemesis'. This one is a precious gem, really. I have never been touched as much by a song on a first listen as by this one. In regard to lyrics this one is on the same high level as 'From Here We Can Almost See The Sea' and in regard to music it really is something else. An amazingly beautiful song with a lot of potential for an ever growing ever changing improvised part at the end. David's voice is very special when singing this one, while he can blow the venue away with his powerful voice in some songs he sings as gentle as I have never heard him sing before on this one. I had tears in my eyes because of the sheer beauty of 'Nemesis'.

So thank you boys, thank you David for an amazing night.

I took some pictures and will put them up in another thread in the picture section.

It was lovely to meet familiar and new faces. Looking forward to seeing you all again some day.

    Hey everyone!

Just wanted to add to the general concensus regarding DG at High Lodge on Friday night - what a magnificent gig that was! Yes

My wife and I absolutely loved it. A gig under the stars was very refreshing and it was great to be dancing along under the night sky as David closed with 'Please Forgive Me' and it rang out around the forest - amazing! He seems to get better and better every time I see him and can't wait for the tour (surely there will be an album tour, right?!) Loved the new songs, it was great to hear the new stuff after the long wait, genuinely can't pick out a favourite among them as they were all simply brilliant. Loved the words to 'Nemesis', very deep. Have to admit, listening to 'The Other Side' brought a tear to my eye, a very emotional performance - I remember him opening with that at Earls Court a few years ago with just him and the piano on stage, and didn't think it could get any better than that.

Anyone else get a little worried they were getting lost when driving along that forest road?! It just seemed to go on and on! A fellow driver had turned round when I was driving along and pulled up next to me to ask if I was there for the concert - he too thought he was heading in the wrong direction but decided to just follow me instead - glad I wasn't the only one, haha!

DG showed his usual great sense of humour when there were problems with the mic, letting us know that it was good there were difficulties because it let every know he wasn't "god-like"! Also the funny stuff about wars still going on in the forest between Norfolk and Suffolk, and when he forgot the words to (was it 'The One I Love'?) was brilliant! The blues/jazz little ditty halfway through 'This Years Love' was also incredibly funny - DG obviously feels very strongly about the Little Chef shutting down on the A11! Showed just how human he is, what a great bloke!

He's really got a great band behind him too and they really know what they're doing, they compliment him so well.

Can't wait for the tour dates and here's to them being announced very, very soon! Cheers everyone!

    Kris.
