Yes, I agree. Much as I have most, if not all, of DG's CD and singles, paying over 22GBP for delivery to the UK of a UK artist's CD is way over the top. Out of principle, I wouldn't subscribe to such. And despite immediately ripping every CD I buy on to my MP3 player, I still prefer owning the CD. Guess I could digitally download it at 8.99GBP, then wait until play.com release it under a tenner, and I'd still be cheaper than buying from the official store. Ill-advised marketing methinks...

PS I noticed some comment about the FLAC format downloads - IIRC, this is a  lossless format and there are a few freeware players I'm sure. So maybe folk should download in this high quality format for archiving or later generation portable players, and burn to CD or convert to WMA or MP3 etc. Good download option, very poor price and delivery costs for the CD!

    Hi Brantome,

I agree that the shipping costs shouldn't be the same or more than the actual CD. This issue has been  addressed (see my post above with the link)

You will also be interested to know that A Thousand Miles Behind is only offered through DavidGray.com. It is not available anywhere else. Check the presale news item for more details. This is something special offered for David's community.

    Tour Dates coming soon...

So if I was to purchase it today, how long would it take till I get the album cause it doesnt say how long it would be until the item is shipped...
I am the sudden and quite unexpected twist...

Thanks - I had understood that pre-sale meant that it was being sold here to the community before it was made generally available to the wider public, and I don't think I was alone from others' comments. Until the 'technical issue' is resolved re postage to the UK, can you say here how much p&p for the CD will be and when they might be shipped/delivered? Much as I like the feeling of physically owning the CD (yes, strange I know), downloading's looking more attractive ...

    Cheers

Ditto - thanks for the update, Kendall - seems I wasn't alone with the misunderstanding about where the CD would be available from and being confounded by the postage. Quite like the idea of a bit of exclusivity now! And nice to see we can get benefits like this in the DG community without having to pay a membership fee like, for example, Counting Crows do.  I look forward to the answers to the above queries

I am also itching to start downloading... but I also would like to physically own the CD. I think I will be patient and wait until it is for sale here in Switzerland or on Amazon.de.

It is sure hard to wait, though!! :)

I am an old timer and would prefer a CD copy as well.  Any idea when it would ship (to the U.S.) if ordered today?

you have three shipping options with a sliding cost - basically like ground or overnight (two days if I recall is the fastest)

Well, with respect, not for me here in the UK, with only International Quick being offered which brings the cost still to over 22GBP. As I said, that's over the top for a British artist's CD despatching to Britain. Rather forces download as the only viable option for us here in DG's homeland...

    A Thousand Miles Behind
davidgray.com quote - "This is something special offered for David's community."
    ???

£22 is something of a rip off and really just taking advantage of David's community....a captive audience.

I have just posted a CD to Edmonton, Canada. With a delivery of 3-5 working days and up to 34.00GBP compensation for loss etc. Costs as follows:

    Weight (incl packaging)                 120g

    Packaging cost (padded bag)         1.00GBP
    Postage (World zone1)                  1.80GBP
My physical effort etc (estimate)     1.00GBP

    Total                                             3.80GBP

A charge of 22.00GBP to "David's community"?  Yep, I reckon we're being ripped off!

Before i give in and order the CD at such an inflated cost, am i right in thinking that this CD will NEVER be available from anywhere other than davidgray.com and that the p&p will always be such a silly price? Knowing my luck i'll order it on here then it'll be 8.99 with free p&p on play.com next week!

OK, so I gave up the notion of buying the CD since there doesn't seem to be a forthcoming response as to why we here in the UK need to pay well over the odds at £22+ for a British artist's album of live covers that many on the community probably have in an admittedly lower quality form.
Also, the notion of a pre-sale of something that now appears to be only available from here strikes me as exceedingly odd - pre-sale had suggested to me that we here on the community could get our hands on it before Joe Public. Why have a pre-sale to a closed (albeit easily found) group other than getting your hands on our cash in advance of the goods being available.
I throw this last bit in because, having declined the expensive CD route, I chose to download the FLAC version. So, I placed my order at 8:00am this morning, hoping to quickly then burn it to CD before heading off to work. Quickly got the email confirming my order which told me to shortly expect a secomd email with details on how to download my purchased album. Here I am 13 hours later at 11PM still awaiting the email! Must be the first download site that I've waited any longer than 5 minutes.
Just what is going on???? Don't you want anyone in the UK to buy the album - you're making it more difficult at every turn...
