I think the appreciation is (potentially) there, but DG's not putting in the effort

of all people I wouldn't have put you on the stupid train..............

these past two tours I think were thrown together because of a deal he signed up for and have to think facilitated their getting across the pond - the jim beam deal and the zach brown southern grounds festival.....he/they simply seized on the opportunity to bang out a quick tour and make a few bucks since they were already here

nothing more than that if you ask me so stop the whining.............it isn't endearing anyone to the cause in my humble opinion

and once he gets the new album together I am sure there will be a proper tour for all so everyone can enjoy..............they need to get to europe so our new papa doesn't have to travel so far Smile

it is kinda clear that there are certain contracts/handshakes and reason why someone tours. but it seems that there are none of those handshakes here. and he played huge places in the uk and ireland. he is constantly filling the venues in germany at least and i'm totally sure we'll see him the next record.

for my part there's no whining at all. especially when we get such a good coverage of the us gigs. plus it makes me happy to see that half of the forum is getting excited.

so to get back to the topic. i think dg loves touring.

for the record you certainly didn't cross my mind.........and it really wasn't intended toward AK either

my comment really was meant for many of the pissy comments coming up on his FB page.....on that note you read many of those comments and have to say I would have thought DG fans would have shown more intelligence....then again those fans with half a brain wouldn't be pleading on FB for him to come to timbuktu simply because he announced a tour.......so I guess a poor representation

I honestly don't know why he doesn't do some of these deals over there.........again I think both of these were opportunistic because such "handshake" occurred

anyhoo yes I would certainly say he does - for the most part

I would raise the wine to partying in general.........and especially so back in the day Smile

I would say he was driving the fun bus for sure, back in the day.  Drinks

I'll add to the list giving to a good cause.  I think he has a kind and generous side.   This is one reason I am a fan.

Nah, I understand why these short, non-album tours happen. My point still stands. He can do these mini tours in US, but he can't do 'em in UK even though the logistics there are probably massively easier. He can accept interesting gigs in the US when off tour, but doesn't put up a show in the UK for the second mini tour in a row?

Europe aside from the UK got snubbed on the Foundling tour (I don't count the one off Zermatt show with half of the band) and DG is not interested in branching out to new areas there. For whatever reason he thought that the L&F tour was something he could only play to safe audiences (= places he plays frequently). He's taking zero risks there. Plus hey, everyone knows European audiences are far better as it comes to just listening to the music and not running for beer and shouting Babylon at him. Wink

Not to mention the massive two US legs of DTL tour compared to the very short European leg, not releasing Foundling bonus disc in the UK, Australia & New Zealand getting skippd on the DTL tour (unlike the LISM tour), the comments about UK audiences being interested in the thigns that are currently "in" vs the US audiences just getting it, Ireland only getting one show on the L&F tour even though they've been one of his most dedicated fanbases for a long time etc.. . I mean c'mon. He plays it safe and there's a definite favourism towards the US there. Far bigger and far smaller acts play more countries than he does.

and the beer comment put you back on the train..............I have seen the same stupidity on both sides of the pond

I have not run into an audience like I did in chicago in a long time and we all know that was because it was corporate bull shite.........I would say the lost and found audiences were no different at all from london to nottingham to boston to dc

but to my point above - you know what? it is what it is - why the feck shouldn't he play wherever the hell he feels like it - he enjoys coming to the states and clearly loves travelling in them - you can tell from all the snaps and the comments......there are only so many days in the year so he chooses to spend a disproportionate number of them here - so what?

as far as massive logistics not sure about that - the only difference is they and the equipment get on a plane.....and they get the lag but it appears to me they have pretty much mastered that

and now we get to the who can and who cannot travel point of the discussion............but for those that can I don't see a lot of difference between a 3.5 hour flight from D to NYC and a 5.5 hour flight from London to NYC.......just sayin

lastly and probably most to the point - and the most obvious - is that this is where he can expand his fan base...........every time he plays in a town like dayton or torrington or asheville he is reaching new audiences...........I doubt that can be said for either the uk or europe frankly

It's true that he has been coming to the U.S. more often lately, but one point that many on the other side of the pond don't think about as much is how BIG the US is.  The way the gigs are spread out would be the equivalent of one or maybe two gigs in the whole of the UK.  For example, of the times he's been over here before this last minute tour, my closest concert would have been well over 8 hours away.  I live in a pretty populated area of the country too.  I'm lucky enough to have two shows to pick from within a 4 hour drive from me this time.  I'm not sure how many people in the UK would think that a four hour drive would be reasonable for a concert, but that's what many folks here in the US do.  There is just so much ground to cover.  Even with all of this generosity towards America lately, there are still tons and tons of very popular places that will not have been able to get to a show in 2012 without getting on a plane.  Places like the whole West Coast, Texas, Florida, etc.

(For the record, however, I would like to state that the 8+ hour drive sounded perfectly reasonable to me!  I just couldn't get anyone else to agree with me!)

Oh, and to keep this on topic, uh, birds.

    David's influences:

Bob Dylan is probably my biggest inspiration. But I love bands like The Cure and The Smiths, but that was when I was about 16 and 17. But Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Van Morrison have all had a lasting effect on me.
