What a wonderfully fabulous evening...........the second time around was SO much better - and in so many ways
The first difference was there was no last minute dash to see Ford in Austin so we had much more time to amply prepare - it also seemed much less stressful in getting prepared.........anyway
Both Tim and Ford were spectacular!!
This is very new territory for Tim and I think he came through it with flying colors - everyone really seemed to enjoy it - we got halloween again and personal 2 - that went over really really well with the crowd - he played Real Love and Trembling per my requests and then he did a wonderful Waltz in 3/4 for Vicki......the crowd was very engaged for it all and you tell they enjoyed from the applause..........it was a great moment
Making the room more intimate by filling it in with nice rented chairs was a huge move - and limiting the crowd to those that were there to hear Ford - were both huge in creating a much better vibe this year.
And Ford responded.
A truly great show with some of his recent hits layered in nicely - after a rousing poison he went straight to the jugular with a splendid decimate that rolled into the awesome cover of ac/dc's you shook me but in ballad form - brought down the house on the second song!
We got a new song we have never heard before which was great - slow ballad though so need a few more listens
He blew everyone away with the looping for Go to Hell..............and then roared through the stand-bys of State of the Union and Song For the Road............he played Waiting For the Storm which was perfect because it was #13 on a 12-song set list last year - and concluded with just a great Every Time - a song that was built to be a closer
A solid mix of only good neighbor friends, some of the better co-workers and then a solid representation of out of towners (mostly grayheads). It was really great to spend the weekend with Sheryl (well two weekends with Sheryl), Erin, Vicki and friend Lisa and Jane and friend Lauren - even Wibbs said today you could tell the grayheads as they clearly were there for the music.........was very fun to see all in the nice front row seats! Maria and I opted for the comfy chairs and sat a couple rows back - it clearly didn't matter though as of course there wasn't a bad seat in the house.....and the sound was rich and loud - perfect
And to be able to spend a couple days with Tim - something I was very looking forward to but also unsure how it would all turn out - and it couldn't have gone better - a wonderfully nice man with vibrant ideas and thoughts while also demonstrating a very positive view of things - I am really lucky to now call him a friend
All in all a great way to ring in the half century mark - and this time for real! although there are rumblings about making 50 happen on an annual basis..............
I think we will have some really good vids and audio - need to give the guys a few days I think but hopefully we will start popping some youtubes
