    Hi everybody,

    Found this on a site:

"...His forthcoming UK tour, which begins in Newcastle, will showcase his Greatest Hits album.

The album features 14 tracks documenting the musician’s 14-year career over seven albums, three record labels, and more than 11 million sales. It will also include two new songs, You’re The World To Me and Destroyer.

David Gray’s Greatest Hits will be released through Atlantic Records on November 12..."

    [source]

November 12 I will be at the Roundhouse gig. I hope there to find and buy the new CD grin

    Greetz from Holland,

    Raymond

If it don’t work out I get superstitious. But if it does, then oh my words.

    Thanks for that Raymond.

'World To Me' was played at the St. John's gigs in July but 'Destroyer'? Interesting. Has anybody heard that one yet? If so, what is it like?

    Smile

Noooo! This will therefore be an even longer wait for new material.

I have to say, given the teasing hints over the last year of new material and the new album (even in DG's letter), the news is a little disappointing; particularly when you consider there's already been a best of compilation this year in the form of "Shine: Best of the Early Years". (I know it's on an old, different label, but all the same...)

With that release I thought it could be new acoustic studio recordings, but it wasn't. It would be great if this best of were new acoustic studio recordings of the tweaked/improved versions of the songs, but I'm not holding much hope.

What I do hope, though, is that something special is done with the release and it's not just going to be an astonishingly lazy, predictable release. I mean, do any of us really need another straight release of Please Forgive Me, Babylon and This Year's Love?

But woooo for new material all the same. It looks like the new album isn't ready yet and this could just be a 'reminder' album or something, but perhaps these two new tracks are being used as a teaser of things to come and to see what fans think.

As for this best of, don't let us down record type people! Make it something special.

in case you didn't see this in the other thread.....

here is some info on the two new songs (produced by "legendary Pink Floyd/Sex Pistols producer Chris Thomas") and a new album around autumn 2008.

I gotta defend DG just a bit being someone who works in the music business. There are many reasons for releasing another hits package.  For starters, the label may be doing it whether he likes it or not.  The label needs to make money and the easiest way for them to do it is to release old material with a few new ones to bait people like us into buying the record.  Greatest Hits rarely count as a record against an artist's contract, which means he probably doesn't like the idea of a Greatest Hits except that maybe it buys him time.   Also remember that David toured solid for well over a year to promote Life In Slow Motion. That actually doesn't leave much time to record an album of material and have it ready for release by now.  Quite often it takes recording two albums worth of material to come up with one decent album.  Besides the fact that he has to find the time to write all the material. Plus manage to see his family once in a while.  Did I mention touring?  It can be pretty relentless...

I didn't mean to sound like an unreasonable, impatient fan, but... well... I am! I want new material! However, if 'World to Me' is anything to go by, I am prepared to wait a little longer for new material It is right up there with the best and I'm glad it's getting a single release. Can't wait for the B-sides as well.

Soon after LISM, I suspected a Greatest Hits would be the next move. It's a nice way to end the Tim/Daivd/Clune collaboration era. I was just really anticipating some new material this year and I'm a little dissapointed I'm going to have to wait a year longer. But, hey, that's my problem ;) At least there's two new tracks on the GH, even if it's now only one new track to hear!

What keeps me a fan is that he always surprises. The little gems like Illuminate, Madder Rain, Golden Ray and Tracer etc. Everyone is speculating that he has gone back to his raw roots with new material from live shows, but I really hope that he's continuing to experiment a little.

Quite looking forward to the release now, even if only for two songs ;)

I hope that tracklist gets re-worked.  I can find about 25 DG songs better than Hospital Food.  Plus, if that tracklist is true, it ignores, 'Flesh,' which includes The Light, Coming Down and Falling Free.

lmao I never understood why so few people like Hospital Food!  It was my favourite track on LISM for ages... though I guess I dont play it much nowadays.

I really like that song. The lyrics are so very much to the point. And nearly everybody I know is calling cheap stuff on tv hospital food now although I doubt they know where the expression comes from. Lol.

Do you know where I can listen to the song "World to Me". I went to the website it said to go to on the home page but could not find it anywhere on that website. So if you could help me out with this that would be great. Thanks

Hi Gathr3rinGdust -----   Click on this link to the thread about this song, it has a link to the Ken Bruce show, select Wednesday and then fast foward to about 1:25 into the show, you have to listen to this other song (which is driving me nuts) but then World To Me will come on.  If you need help listening to it, go into the thread entitled UK Radio Play in the Music area, it has to be played through Internet Explorer it seems.

    Enjoy!
