David will be performing solo at a benefit concert for his bass player, Robbie Malone's former band, Lir on Saturday, September 24, at Vicar Street in Dublin, Ireland. The event will look to raise funds for the Irish band's impending court case. Also performing will be Lir and Pugwash. To purchase tickets please visit Ticketmaster.ie and also take a moment to check out David's message below:
I have known Robbie Malone of Lir ever since he joined my band in 1999. Through all that time I have watched from the sidelines as his ex-managers law-suit has dragged on year in year out, blighting both his life, and the lives of all the other Lir band members. A date has finally been set in November for the case to be heard in the High Court in Dublin which will hopefully put an end to the whole farcical affair once and for all. Solicitors cost money, barristers cost money, justice, it seems, costs money, so the idea of the gig is to celebrate the bands music, have some fun, and with luck, raise some much needed funds in the process. Count me in.
David has donated a pair of his shoes to a charity auction benefitting the Small Steps Project, dedicated to supporting children who live on rubbish dumps around the world.

It's music season at The Guardian and they've posted a review about our man David and his latest tour. Can you imagine if he played all 156 song suggestions? Well, we can dream!
Check out the full article below, or at Guardian.co.uk.
David Gray – reviewBy Dave Simpson
David Gray reveals that, before his latest tour, he asked fans which songs they would like to hear. "There were 156 suggestions," he chuckles. "One of them was Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax." He doesn't play that, but top of fans' wishlists were songs from White Ladder, the album that made Gray a worldwide star in 2000. As long as he gives his still-sizable following a bit of what they want, he can do as he pleases.
That means exploring his recent Foundling album and extensive back catalogue backed by a largely acoustic band that includes cello, double bass and zither, which gives his untamed bellow and offbeat humour room to roam. "When the electricity runs out and the synthesiser is no more, this medieval ***'s gonna be where it's at," he grins. His tie is done up so tight it's strangling him, his leg is pumping out some imaginary rhythm, and when his violinist tumbles over, he quips about a showbusiness "dignified exit".
And yet, mainstream ubiquity has clearly scarred Gray, and he talks of not always writing songs from inspiration, before delivering one that was – the sublime love song, Falling Free. His records no longer sell millions, but he has gained an intensity worthy of Van Morrison or Mike Scott. "Music is a heavy thing, it takes you to another place," he muses before 2009's extraordinary Nemesis. The hits appear – he reveals that Babylon's snapshot of a wild night was written in Stoke Newington, London – but newer songs have won at least one ardent admirer.
"Beeeee mine, David!" yells a gruff male voice after the raging, anthemic Fugitive. "A flattering offer," grins Gray. "I'll contemplate it and give you a reply by email."

David will be taking a trip down memory lane in the new ITV Wales series, Time of your Life, on Friday, March 4.
The singer-songwriter moved from Manchester to Lower Solva when he was eight, spending his formative schooldays at Solva Community School and later Ysgol Dewi Sant in St. Davids.
The episode follows him as he revisits the area, as well as his favourite old haunts in the village and along the Pembrokeshire coast.
He said:
I remember like yesterday the day we moved from Manchester to a tiny cottage tucked under a hill in Lower Solva. There was a picturesque fishing harbour outside the door, a bluebell wood behind: I was eight, and I thought, 'This is Action Man heaven.'
The episode was filmed in the autumn, and Associate Producer Alun Jones said Gray enjoyed his trip back home.
The village has obviously changed a lot since David was a boy, but that didn't seem to matter one bit, the countryside, the sea, the wildlife and the people are what made this his home and in that sense it was like he had never been away.
Time of your Life has already profiled Nerys Hughes, Rhodri Morgan, Colin Jackson, Sian Lloyd, and Gareth Edwards.
David's episode airs tonight, Friday, March 4 at 8 pm on ITV 1 Wales and 9 pm on ITV 1 + 1 in Wales and The Westcountry. You will also be able to view the broadcast episodes online.

The 'Lost and Found' Tour
The 'Lost and Found' tour embodies more than just an opportunity to play some of the quieter, more intimate songs not only from 'Foundling', but from across my catalogue, it also provides a long anticipated platform for a completely different approach. In terms of the way that the sound of the music is captured and presented, it will be more like a recording session than a gig in many ways. Acoustic instruments will be miced up for their real sound, rather than going for the usual pick-up sound, and as a result volume levels both for the band and the audience will have to be kept much lower than at your average 'rock' show. Hopefully the sonic results will be more than worth the sacrifice of a few decibels. Essentially the 'Lost and Found' show will be a listening experience.
Something else that will be different, will be the close proximity of all the musicians involved. I am imagining a very tight knit group on stage, which will involve cello, double bass, piano, guitar, melodica, drums and harmonium, and in which the musicians will be free to move from instrument to instrument during songs. A more reactive environment, in which subtle changes of mood, tempo and dynamics can be responded to instantly and instinctively by everyone involved.
Performing very quiet and delicate songs on a big stage, it often feels like you are battling against the distance between each other. My fantasy is for a situation onstage in which the bonds of musicianship are so tight and so close, that moving with the current of the music is like flying with a flock of birds, or swimming with a shoal of fish; where sudden and dramatic changes of direction are possible even though the signals that summon them are barely perceptible.
My idea for the set, is that it will centre around the songs from 'Foundling', but will also include reinterpretations of songs both large and small from across all my albums, with maybe a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
While on the subject of the setlist, the spirit of festive generosity is clearly still in the air. Bearing in mind that rehearsals haven't started yet, if there is any particular song of mine that you think has been languishing on the sidelines for too long and would dearly love to hear, then drop me a line at help@DavidGray.com quick sharp, and I'll see what I can do about getting a new version together.
See you all soon,
Dave

David’s live version of "Fugitive" will appear on the Cities 97 Sampler 22, appearing in November at local Target stores with proceeds benefiting various charitable organizations.
Cities 97 Sampler is a series of albums which has been released annually since 1989 and contains “live in studio” recordings from radio station Cities 97 (KTCZ 97.1) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. David and other featured artists are donating their Studio C performance to this cause; be sure to show them your support!
This charitable effort is being released just in time for the Christmas season, so pick up a copy and take comfort in helping out a worthy cause this holiday!
Although David has finished touring for the year, you can take a look at this Billboard video in which he discusses the new album – Foundling – and his tour with Ray LaMontagne.
The two soulful songwriters had originally planned to join together for a couple tracks during the tour, but as David said in the video, “naughty Ray” hadn’t learnt his lines! To see David and Ray singing together, check out this clip of them performing a Beatles song, “Dig A Pony”.
John Lennon’s birthday is tomorrow – October 9 – and David has made this video tribute in his honour. David was brought up listening to his parents playing Beatles records and he now describes John as a standard you measure yourself by. Check it out and then let us know your thoughts by joining the discussion happening now, over in the Forums!
